Hi Oedura,

I think you make a really great point about green waste collections. It would be great to have a more regular green waste collection available to residents.

Brisbane City Council is currently working towards green waste removal bins and expects to have something in place within the next two years.

At this stage, there is some work to be done between Council and industry to determine the market and establish what the capacity is for these materials. It is also something that is likely to be introduced over a period of time so that initially residents may volunteer to have green bins as it is eventually rolled out across the city.

I agree. Melbourne has it too.

The landfill waste has a red top, and is very small.
The other two (recycling and green waste) are large.

Apparently larger bins induce more garbage production.
Green waste could be processed and composted, and used in the parks or sold off.

Extended family were having a conversation over Christmas on their respective waste disposal services, and the residents from Sydney, Coffs Harbor and Adelaide all are supplied with:-
  • 1 (small) general waste wheelie bin
  • 1 (large) recycling wheelie bin
  • 1 (small) wheelie bin for GREEN WASTE

I was shocked that despite having one of the biggest councils in the country, we are lagging behind other smaller centres by not having Green Waste Bins.

This leads to green waste incorrectly being disposed of in general landfill or worse, being illegally dumped in bushland areas.  I would like to see BCC give some real consideration to providing this service to help all of us better deal with our waste.
