I can believe that Green Drinks would be politically non-alligned in the sense of not being specifically aligned with particular parties or organisations, since all of our main parties are now environmentalist and all environmentalist organisations have basically the same ideology. (e.g. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman (Liberal) definitely is environmentalist - he's our "World Wildlife Fund Earth Hour Ambassador".) You don't need tobe aligned with anyone party or group, since they are all aligned with basically one ideology.

But Green Drinks is politically aligned in the sense of advocating one basic political ideology just by the fact that it is environmentalist, because environmentalism is itself basically a political movement. Environmentalism is not just about preserving the environment, it is about preserving the environment by means of government intervention. (Hence this Brisbane City Council forum.)

Environmentalism is part of a larger movement called "sustainable dvelopment", which basically is about government intervention in other areas, such as culture and the arts (for which there is another BCC forum here), from the United Nations at the international level, to national, state and local levels, in cooperation with government-funded "non-government" organisations, which all have the same agenda as the government.

Your Green Drinks talks cannot help but be about politics. Not just politics, but one particular, basic political ideology: statism.

"Government is not eloquence, is not reason. It is force! Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

- George Washington, first president of the United States.

It would be great to get some word of mouth about the Green Drinks Brisbane event. So far we haven't had anyone from the B.C.C. or State Government departments attend. Melissa - perhaps you could email a link to relevant contacts in the council (e.g. I Green Heart Brisbane), etc.

Green Drinks Brisbane is a monthly event for socialising and professional networking.

Venue: Ashala Bar, 138 Albert Street, Brisbane City (in the function room)

Date rule: the final Tuesday of each month

Time: 5:30pm until late

Cost: free entry, pay for own drinks/food

No RSVP required, although there is an event listing for Facebook users who want to show their support.

Contact: greendrinksbrisbane@gmail.com for any more information.
Please visit our website to double-check the details listed on this page, in case they change over time.

This is an event for environmentally-minded Brisbane professionals who meet for a monthly drink. An excellent way to:
• meet like-minded people
• make friends
• learn about interesting projects / organisations from around the Brisbane area
• discuss and collaborate on projects
• stumble upon 'eureka' moments

Essentially, the aim is to be a social think-tank with the environment as the common denominator. Green Drinks are agenda-free and non-politically aligned (read more). Individuals from businesses, not-for-profits, government and academia welcome, as well as those with personal projects!

Visit the Facebook group.
